Which warhammer should i buy
The Dwarves have yet to receive a much-needed update in Total War Warhammer 2 as of this writing, but this DLC can make playing the race a bit more interesting than usual. For the longest time Realm of the Wood Elves was very hard to recommend because the race felt outdated in TW: W2 but things have changed for the better in recent times.
These days the Wood Elves are pretty fun to play and their unique mechanics really set them apart from most of the other races in the game. The downside is that Realm of the Wood Elves counts as a full expansion and costs almost as much as two lord packs.
However, you may still want it anyway because it introduces a new legendary lord, the Sisters of Twilight, along with some pretty cool units like Zoats and Great Stag Knights. Deathmaster Snikch, the first legendary lord that came with the DLC, has some very unique gameplay mechanics that revolve around stealth and subterfuge, as does his combat style.
This is a tough one. And despite essentially adding a new faction, it only costs about half as much as a regular expansion. The Hunter and the Best is pretty difficult to recommend. Nakai, the new legendary lord introduced for the Lizardmen, has a horde army at his disposal but the gameplay mechanics are pretty underwhelming.
As far as the other new legendary lord is concerned, Markus Wulfhart is only marginally interesting. There are definitely much better choices out there if you want to play as the Empire. Unfortunately, neither of them is particularly interesting. Creative Assembly pissed off a lot of people when it announced this day 1 DLC for the original game.
And understandably so. Chaos is one of the most iconic parts of the Warhammer universe and this should have been part of the base game. To make matters worse, the Chaos Warriors campaigns are pretty terrible as well. Better give it a wide berth. Barring any freeLC of course. Install Steam. Store Page. Global Achievements. So I'm some what new to the whole Total War series except from demos I played and the like I'm curious which warhammer I should get, should I get Warhammer 2 first?
Edit: Okay thanks for all the replys, I've made the decision to go with the first and go from there as suggested thank you. Last edited by DuckNinjas ; 24 Jun, pm. Showing 1 - 13 of 13 comments. Pheen View Profile View Posts.

Warhammer 1 gives you potentially more repeatability due to the amount of factions available and the campaign map is more action packed. Personally I'd suggest getting both so you can play the mortal empires campaign which puts both games together but if you can't afford that yet then it's not an option.
Be aware there are also a lot of DLC factions that are also well worth looking at. Not all of them will suit you but one may just be your thing. Originally posted by Emjay :. It might seem sensible to just grab the first game and get on with it.
I'm going to tell you not to do that, for a couple of reasons. One way Total War: Warhammer 2 improved on its predecessor is by continuing to introduce concepts as you play and guiding you with optional missions. By comparison, the first game dumps a bunch of help on you during the early game then abandons you right when you're probably wondering why your public order has tanked and your economy's falling apart.
Warhammer 2 is a smoother newbie experience—it might occasionally expect you to care about a character you've never heard of out of the blue, but just roll with it and wiki Lokhir Fellheart later. The other reason to start with the sequel is that its campaign is more likely to keep you involved.
The original comes with the Old World campaign, which has you reconstruct your chosen nation then defend it from the forces of Chaos as they roll down from the north like a snowball of hate.
It's a basic "take this territory then hold it" story. Warhammer 2's Eye of the Vortex campaign is instead a race to control a magical energy source that's spinning out of control, letting everyone perform regular rituals that tap into that big blue funnel for potentially game-altering effects. The dark elves can summon ocean fortresses, while the skaven create what are basically magical nukes.
It keeps things interesting in the late game. You'll be able to play as the skaven, high elves, dark elves, or lizardmen—all good choices for beginners, though the lizardmen do have a tricky economy to make up for the fact their units are such beasts.
If you've ever collected and painted an army of Citadel miniatures, seeing them represented in digital form is a delight. You can press K to get rid of the UI and zoom in for close-ups, and with the Better Camera mod you can get right in there to check out all the detail on a goblin's face. In this case, the answer to "where should I start? The first game comes with the Empire, dwarfs, greenskins, and vampire counts as standard, plus Bretonnia as a free download.
The second game has skaven, lizardmen, high elves, and dark elves as stock armies.
