I hear ya. Over a year and a half is certainly good like from the unit - and of couse outside of the warranty period. As long as I get at least a year out of the unit, I won't complain. I have this feeling Nike and Apple are going to be expanding this system and I'll end up buying whatever is next anyway well before this sensor dies!

Why didn't Apple and Nike make this product activate only when u link it to your iPod and run with it? This will make the sensor last much longer for us battery-minded people.

It certainly probably doesn't transmit until it senses the other end of the kit. That's why I think it listens first and only transmits when it is told to by the iPod end. What I think happens is when it doesn'e sense motion, it goes to a deep sleep, power off mode.

Only when it senses motion from the piezioelectric sensor does it enter recieve mode. Then when it is told by the other end, it starts transmitting data. It is important to remember that you need Nike Plus-ready shoes to successfully insert the Nike Plus Sensor.
