Mainfreight began it's operations in Auckland, New Zealand in , soon growing into New Zealand's most extensive freight network. In , we went public and listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. To this day, we continue to be one of the best performing businesses on the New Zealand stock exchange.

Investments in Australian operations began in , driven by a desire to treat New Zealand and Australia as a single market. Our presence in Australia continued to expand through both acquisition and branch proliferation across strategic locations. We became global in with the acquisition of businesses in both Asia and the United States.

Full ownership of our Asian operations was complete in and today we have several branches operating out of China, South East Asia, Japan and Korea.
